I received a call one evening from one Matt Biegger. He had agreed to put on an 80s pop rock themed charity event and needed to create a band. Jenipher Sutherland (the original 80s girl) was onboard but needed bass player… and pretty much everything else. I told him I’d call him back in a few minutes. My first call was, of course, to Richie Cantrell. Gotta bring the keys and that’s what Richie does. After a fairly brief discussion he agreed and volunteered Mike Ruby for guitar duties. Now the hard part… we needed a drummer that could acclimate and learn about 60 songs in very short order. I could think of not one person available or reliable and then a light went on… I called Josh Brainard and this is basically how the call played out:
Josh: Yo.
Me: Sup?
Josh: Not much just hanging out.
Me: Want to play drums in a 80s band?
Josh: Dude, I don’t play drums.
Me: So?
Josh: Okay. When’s the first practice.
I called Matt back after about 20 minutes with a full band and we started practicing a few days later. Played a few shows and had a lot of fun. Josh and I decided to leave. Not quite suite sure what happened after that…
