I’ve owned this domain since 1996, right before everyone and their undetected, internal tumor twin had a true grasp on what access to the World Wide Web (always capitalize to give due to the god-like stature it now commands) was capable of . At first I wanted to create an arts and general creativity dumping ground that the artists, musicians, poets, and so forth of Des Moines, Iowa could share their work, mentor, interact… just a nice, safe place for us to express ourselves via a news oriented channel.
In 2001, I downloaded Geeklog from a beta site, set it up and began playing. This was an amazing robust outsource community platform launched by a guy named Jason Whittenburg but relied on the community’s coding input to evolve. It was a chat board on steroids.
In spring of 2002, I asked a friend of mine to help me assemble some folks that might be interested in writing and contributing while trying to sell a little advertising space to help finance the site and hopefully us someday. We met at House of Brick’s on Merle Hay Road. I can’t remember if I can recall the exact number but it was well attended. Long story short (too late) my idea was dismissed cordially and the meeting was fairly short, dismissed as nothing more than a blog site that relies on other people’s interaction to drive content. Myspace was released in August of 2003 but what the hell did I know. 😉
That all may or may not be true… but it is. Anyhoo, I recently realized what the hell. If you’ve read this far, I am most thankful. This website is about sharing not only a few things that someone might find useful emotionally and a lot of things that I think matter on a community level.
I’m building this somewhat selfishly starting with what I have in my possession which I fully, or in part, have rights to. This website will be me for better or worse.
